GETTING STARTED
TOP-10 CHECKLIST
READ THESE FIRST
1. Do not take your Marmoleum Click panels out of their boxes as soon as you get home. Instead, place the unopened boxes in the centre of the room where you plan to install the floor. Then leave them for at least 48 hours so they can acclimatize to the temperature and moisture in the room.
2. Marmoleum Click floors are meant to be installed ‘floating’ – on top of an underlay and without using glue. It’s therefore important to ensure that your floor does not touch any adjoining surfaces. This will prevent the floor from buckling should the boards expand because of an increase in temperature and/ or air moisture. When installing your floor, always leave a gap of 10 mm between the boards and adjoining surfaces like walls, plinths, radiator pipes, pillars, door frames and the like.
3. Marmoleum Click flooring can be installed on top of any clean, dry, firm and even subfloor. Before installing your floor, check the type and condition of the subfloor over which you intend to install, and completely remove fitted carpets. For concrete, stone and marble subfloors, residual humidity should be no more than 2.5 CM%. For anhydrite screed-type sand and cement floors, residual humidity should be no more than a maximum of 0.5 CM%
4. Choose underlay materials according to your own situation. However, and for every kind of inorganic subfloor, you must also put down a single layer of 0.2 mm thick PE (polyethylene) sheeting. This layer of PE sheeting will insulate your floor from the effects of moisture.
5. Measure your room and decide on the direction in which you want to install your floor, the floor design and installation patterns. You will need to use an expansion joint if your floor is longer or wider than 10 metres. The joint can be covered with a so-called 'transition profile'. Cut the first and/or last row of boards before proceeding further.
6. Marmoleum Click is suitable for underfloor heating – ask your supplier about the requirements and for advice.
7. Install your floor according to the pictures in this instruction. Keep the working area clean! You can also watch our installation video.
8. Check your floor continuously during installation. It is not possible to submit a claim for defective boards if they have been installed.
9. Always keep the climate in the room within the following parameters: 40-60% relative air humidity and a temperature of at least 15°C.
10. Maintain and clean your Marmoleum Click in line with the instructions so you can enjoy your floor for many years.
What you will need
Pencil, ruler, jigsaw, 10 mm spacers and a broom or brush.
General information Marmoleum Click has a top layer of linoleum that is made from predominantly natural materials and is processed according to environmentally friendly procedures. Its main ingredient is natural linseed oil, which is mixed with wood flour, rosin and limestone. Marmoleum is coloured using ecologically responsible pigments. Pressed onto a jute fabric backing, the result is an extremely durable and environmentally friendly floor covering.
The Marmoleum is bonded to high-quality HDF (high density fibreboard) backed with cork and is quick and easy to install. Simply slot it together using the special tongue and groove locking system and literally click the panels into place. It can be installed one panel at a time. Because linoleum is made from natural raw materials, there can be slight differences in colour and structure between production batches. This means that the floor panels you receive may differ slightly from the samples you saw when choosing your floor. We recommend to install Marmoleum Click panels from the same production batch using sequential carton numbers when possible.
Newly made linoleum goes through a maturing process in the first few days. This normal and temporary natural phenomenon can result in the floor appearing slightly yellow. By exposing the floor to natural or artificial light the tint will disappear, allowing the true colour of the Marmoleum to develop.
Notes To maximise the life of your Marmoleum Click floor, we recommend you to use an electronic humidifier (vaporiser) to avoid extreme dry air from drying out your floor. This is mainly of importance in winter.
Before installation, always check panels in natural daylight for any faults, damage and to see if the colour and texture are correct.
Marmoleum Click can be installed on any clean, dry, even and structurally sound subfloor (in line with the generally accepted rules of the floor installation trade, as set out in VOB, Part C, DIN 18356 "Parquetry". Please note that all wall-to-wall fitted carpets and remnants must be removed before installing your Marmoleum Click floor. If the subfloor is more than 2 mm out of true over 2 metres of floor, this unevenness must be corrected. If necessary, discuss the condition of your subfloor with your supplier.
Underlay materials Always cover the subfloor with a moisture barrier. This can be ageing resistant PE (polyethylene) sheeting. Placing an additional layer of PE foam (thickness 2 mm, density min 30 kg/m3) over the PE sheet reduces the transmission of impact sounds and levels out minor irregularities in the subfloor.
Use a 0.2 mm thick sheet of PE when installing over mineral subfloors (i.e. concrete, except for poured asphalt screed). The edges of the PE sheet should be turned up at the walls to a height of 5 cm, and any seams must overlap by at least 20 cm.
Not suitable for areas with standing water, like wet rooms or showers.
Installing with underfloor heating Before installing Marmoleum Click over a subfloor with underfloor heating, you must install a moisture barrier that is at least 0.2 mm thick. Note that this construction will slightly reduce heat radiation. The maximum permissible surface temperature for Marmoleum Click is 27°C. Keep in mind that loose rugs may function as heat accumulators and so raise the temperature of the Marmoleum Click floor above the maximum surface temperature allowed.
Avoid damage to your floor Stick felt pads under the legs of chairs and other pieces of furniture, and place doormats at outside entrances to reduce the amount of dirt and moisture that gets walked in.
